Allow booze on beach

Re. Poll: Should consumption of alcohol be allowed in municipal parks? (Castanet, June 1)

I can’t believe people are against booze on the beach (in Kelowna)?

It’s absurd fear-mongering about trouble happening because people are drinking in public. The only negative thing that happened in Penticton (where it has been allowed for some time) was there ws not enough garbage removal at first, as more people were staying longer and eating more at the beach. Once that was figured out, things were great.

In a time when drug-users are free to do whatever, wherever and however they want, someone enjoying a drink on the beach shouldn’t be hassled.

(Editor's note: The poll showed 48.87% of the 9,643 who chose to respond supported allowing consumption of alcohol in municipal parks, while 47.89% were opposed.)
