Grocery prices too high

Re. Dan Albas column Rising grocery bills (Castanet, March 16)

As much as I can see the profits being experienced by our big grocery chains look just

a little suspicious at this point in time, what is not being discussed is the impact the upcoming Carbon Tax increase will have , another huge jump thanks to (Prime Minister) Justin Trudeau which we, the public, will get back via our quarterly refunds, but which will significantly impact transport costs for all commercial vehicles.

Do you think that won’t get passed on to the consumer? I don’t believe this ever-increasing cost was raised during the parliamentary (committee’s) questioning of the grocery chain heads.

In addition to the Carbon Tax increase April 1, consumers will also face a tax increase on any booze we buy, as the federal excise tax will also increase.

I don’t know if Albas was trying to divert attention but his MP salary, will also go up (on April 1). Our elected officials in Ottawa will receive a $5,100 annual increase to their salaries, meaning even the lowly back benchers will (be paid) close to $200,000 per year.

That must be nice. I think grocery prices are easily affordable in that income bracket.
