More on dog licence fees

Re. Save $20 on dog licences (Castanet, Jan. 8)

It's easy to forget to renew a dog license, so the reminder of the due date, Feb. 28, is helpful.

There are three categories of dog license that were not mentioned—nuisance dogs, aggressive dogs and dangerous dogs. The license fees for each of the three, if the dogs are not neutered or spayed, are $80, $150 and $500 respectively.

(Editor's note: The licence fees for spayed or neutered nuisance, aggressive and dangerous dogs is $40, $100 and $500 respectively.)

The dangerous dog license fee remains at $500, whether the dog is neutered, spayed or not. In addition, no amount of training will remove the dangerous dog designation. It is there for the life of the dog.

This is important information for dog owners who have not read the Regional District of Central Okanagan’s dog bylaw.
