No deal with Putin

Re. Ricky Daytona's letter 'Proxy" war with Russia (Castanet, Jan. 27)

Lest we forget.

Rick Daytona’s letter about negotiating a treaty with Russia and ceding parts of Ukraine reminds me of (former British Prime Minister) Neville Chamberlain, who made peace with Adolf Hitler while throwing the people of Poland under the bus. He declared, “Peace in our time.”

It is being naïve to believe that Putin would be satisfied with just a portion of Ukraine. Negotiating a peace with him is making a pact with the devil. The people of Ukraine would be sacrificed as were those of Poland (prior to the Second Word War). They would be living in an autocracy with no human rights. It would definitely not end there.

Putin would have no qualms about breaking the treaty and continue with his illegal aggression. The war would continue on.

The adage, “those who forget history are bound to repeat it” will always be true.
