Re. Ralph Behrens letter End vacs mandate (Castanet, Jan. 12)
I’m surprised a retired doctor has these kinds of views.
Anyone who reads this should look up the requirements for entering practical nursing, nursing and medical schools. Students accepted into nursing programs have to be up to date with (their) vaccines for measles, mumps and rubella (MMR); varicella; tetanus, diphtheria, acellular and pertussis (Tdap); hepatitis B (including hepatitis AB serology indicating levels) and polio.
For people accepted into the undergraduate medical program, they must submit evidence of immunizations for tetanus, diphtheria, toxoid, polio, and hepatitis B (a serology status is strongly encouraged,) as well as MMR and a negative TB skin test. If that the test is positive, a chest X-ray is required.
All students are registrants of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C. and must abide by the professional standards and guidelines for blood- born pathogens in registrants to the program of the faculty of medicine.
I imagine the current applicants to any of these programs, are required to be up to date with their Covid-19 vaccines as well.
I know people entering medical programs in the U.S. are required to meet specific requirements, so, I looked up the British Columbia requirements.
Why would people want to work in the medical field if they don't believe in vaccines?
After all, they were required to be vaccinated in order to have the opportunity to enrol in these programs.
I'm baffled.
