Pepper spray 'assault'

Re. Pepper spray in food court (Castanet, Jan. 12)

On Jan. 12 we saw a second pepper spray incident at the (Orchard Park Shopping Centre in Kelowna) food court by irresponsible teenagers, who seem to think the mall is a playground and a place to settle scores with a highly toxic weapon.

I hope these unthinking and selfish kids get caught and charged with criminal assault, as using pepper spray is an assault.

People go to the mall to shop, to eat and to relax and shouldn't have to be worried about being attacked.

Do we need a police presence in the food court now to control spoiled teenagers from threatening everyone's safety?

There have been two attacks since Boxing Day,and that's two too many. I was there, in the food court, on Jan. 12 about an hour after this happened, which I am thankful for. I feel sorry for those who had their days ruined by these budding criminals, who obviously don't care about what their actions do to other people.

If one of the teenagers involved in this attack today arrives home with the effects of pepper spray, I hope his or her parents ask why because their kid was just involved in a crime, or they committed it.

They should be lucky it was pepper spray and not use of a gun or the result would have been much worse.

A Mullins
