'Basic values' area sham

Re. Brian Godfroid's letter Losing basic values (Castanet, Jan. 5)

I'm not sure in which world the author is living.

The alleged "basic values", honesty and integrity, have always been a sham wolves convinced sheep about.

The various churches have always been living in luxury while preaching charity. Governments only serve as a means to provide more power to those who run them. If there has been a standard throughout time, it is that absolute power is corrupts absolutely, no matter which side of the chess board you stand on.

The only difference is today, the mere working person has access to much more unbiased information highlighting corruption, especially in the Western world.
