Elected to make decisions

Re. J. Summach’s letter Just say no to hard drug plan (Castanet, Jan. 3)

While I won't argue the author's opinion on this pilot project because they're entitled to their own opinion, I do take issue with a few items in the letter.

It states majority rules and questions why one person, or the government, can make laws and ram them down our throats. Well, generally the majority does rule in a democracy, including ours, but only at election time.

We elect government officials, MPs and MLAs to make laws. If every decision government makes goes to (public) vote or referendum, we'd all be voting daily.

Further, I am certain considerable thought and consultation went into the implementation of the pilot project regarding hard drugs and it's possible impacts and benefits to society.

It seems like the author has a bigger problem with government than the project itself, but that's just my opinion.

If you don't like what governments are doing then be sure to vote in the next election.
