Drivers, smarten up

Last week, I wrote a letter about the scary number of incredibly arrogant and stupid drivers in the valley who are running red lights.

More has to be done (in Kelowna) because there are only five red light cameras operated by the province and none are operated by the City of Kelowna.

The reason I want to point this out is because recently, at Highway 97 and Leckie Road, I was preparing to turn left when I saw the other light turn red and mine was turning green. But I heard a loud roar that caught my attention and caused me to hesitate from moving forward. I looked to the left and you won’t believe this, or maybe you will.

The sudden roar came from an older truck with a loud muffler and the driver had (pressed) his gas pedal to the floor to run the red light but was 100 feet from the cross walk when he decided this was a smart thing to do.

His truck was well over the speed limit by the time he blew through the intersection. Thank God other drivers heard, and then saw, this moron do this because had I pulled out into the intersection, he would have killed me.

Seriously, at that speed and having the truck come through on my driver’s side, I will leave the image of the carnage (that could have occurred) for you to imagine.

I am so numb to the stupidity of drivers in this (city) but this incident took the cake and I had to say something about it.

I am going to save my breath and not going to even ask people to smarten up because clearly there is a higher level of stupidity in this city that can’t be fixed with warnings.

Anyway, to the drivers who do have brains, drive safely and always wait at least two seconds before pulling out into an intersection.
