Canadian indie band Arcade Fire will play at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver on Friday (Nov. 25).
Earlier this month, the band's 2022 release "WE" received a Grammy nomination for best alternative music album. (In 2011, its third album, The Suburbs, won the Grammy for Album of the Year, Juno Award for Album of the Year, and Brit Award for Best International Album.)
The "WE" album's third song, End of the Empire I-V (Sagittarius A*), includes the lyrics: "One Christ child and one on the way/ Why don't we name her Sagittarius A*/ What a pretty name".
Sagittarius A* is the name of the supermassive black hole at the Galactic Center of the Milky Way. Arcade Fire is using the black hole and compares it to Jesus as both the saviour and a sign of the apocalypse, similar to themes throughout the album.
Some Arcade Fire ticket holders say they want a refund for the band’s upcoming show after alleged sexual misconduct allegations against frontman Win Butler, were brought forward in Pitchfork, a music news publication.
According to Pitchfork, Butler acknowledged he had extramarital relationships but said they were all “between consenting adults".
The "WE" album's fifth song, Unconditional I (Lookout Kid) addresses unconditional love, and includes the lyrics: "'Cause nothing is ever perfect/ No one's perfect/ Let me say it again: No one's perfect".
Butler told Apple Music “the idea of unconditional love is this impossible thing to achieve." "But we do it naturally, somehow. And it’s something that I think we naturally have with our kids, but I think it’s something that we’re supposed to have for people that we're not related to as well,” he said.
