First, a thank you to the Let’s Talk Housing forum sponsors, Penticton Home Builders and Realtors for hosting the most recent (Penticton civic election) all-candidates meeting, and to CFUZ for broadcasting the event on radio Oct. 5.
It became evidently clear we have a slate of incumbents who are well versed in the issues surrounding the housing and development concerns of our fine city - (candidates) Katie Robinson, Campbell Watt, Frank Regehr, and James Miller.
What was patently evident, though, was that (candidate) Isaac Gilbert would be a great addition to a council and advocates both for builders and for intelligent development.
Of all the candidates, Gilbert was able to present a sustainable building format that included a mix of residential/commercial neighbourhoods that no other candidate advocated.
In an increasingly car-dependent model perpetuated by urban sprawl, it was Gilbert who was most informed about how to address the need for sustainable development.
As a society we need to be much more aware of the need to build community intelligently.
