Why vax truckers now?

For the past two years, truckers have been going back and forth across the US-Canada border, with no masks, tests or vaccines, at a rate of about 100,000 per week. And now, for some reason, (Prime Minister) Justin Trudeau decides truckers need to be double vaxxed to keep us all safe. Why?

If it didn't matter to him two years ago, why does it matter now?

Today 88% of Canadians are double or triple vaxxed, and the other 12% aren't going to do it anytime soon, no matter what the government does to punish them. So what problem is he trying to solve?

We're currently seeing anywhere from 20,000 to 40,000 positive tests per day in Canada and Dr. Bonnie Henry (B.C.’s provincial health officer) estimates because our testing capability is so woefully inadequate, the real number might be 10 times (higher).

As a result, I'm pretty sure any variant that exists in the world is already here. For example, wastewater tests have determined that Omicron was in Nova Scotia at least two weeks before it was (reported) in South Africa.

Again, where is the logic in further hampering our supply chain problems all for the sake of political optics? Does the Canadian economy really need another kick in the shins right now?
