Lockdown is a bad idea

Re: Kevin Lewis letter Total lockdown needed (Castanet, Nov. 29)

You’re kidding, right Kevin Lewis?

A total lockdown is exactly the wrong thing to do. Decisions based on fear are never successful decisions. It is not known at this point if the Omicron variant is more deadly or contagious than previous variants.

In an abundance of caution, I believe our federal government did the right thing in restricting travel from South Africa. But total lockdown? I suppose, if we want more businesses ruined, more mental health issues, more economic devastation, more suicides, more jobs lost, more citizens on welfare, you name it. Has society not had enough?

Panicking by enacting a total lockdown is insane. How much do we think we all can take? Everyone, and I mean everyone, is sick and tired of this pandemic. Two years of this crap.

People have had it up to their eyebrows with this thing. Don’t be surprised if there is even more civil unrest than there is at present, lockdown or not.

People are tired of the restrictions we do have, tired of being told where we can go and where we can’t, who we can or cannot see, tired of the divisiveness, just tired.

Let the vaccination program do it’s thing. We’ll get through this, but not if we enact a draconian total lockdown. That would destroy all the progress we have made.

So give me a break, total lockdown, really?
