Letter: Apt Fire Insurance

To the editor:

Being an evacuee from last summer's fire, I take some offense comparing the apartment fire to the fire that ravaged our city last summer. The biggest reason that aid was needed and rolled out is that our house insurance did not cover us for the evacuation.

Shouldn't the tenants of this fire go to their insurance companies, most policies have a rider that covers your out of home expenses in the case of a fire, I know mine does. If they chose not to invest in insurance does that mean I as a tax payer am obligated to support them now? If I had of lost my house in the fire then my insurance company would have picked up the tab not the taxpayer.
