I could not agree more with the rebuttals against that rubbish that V.P. wrote. Here is a better solution though. Don't allow anyone to start driving until they have graduated college. Unrealistic? Well maybe to those many irresponsible parents who buy their kids fancy new cars to drive just to keep them happy and out of their hair. But at least the drivers would be those of a higher level of maturity.
I remember the one and only accident I ever witnessed. It involved a youth trying to speed through an intersection when the light was already turning red and the car on the other side was beginning to turn left to clear the intersection. No one was injured but I remember the young male driver saying, "They will be on the other guy's side because I'm a youth". The fact is I was probably the same age as him but I was on the other guy's side. The youth was previously tailgating the vehicle I was in and when I moved out of the lane the light was already yellow and the youth could have stopped. He was in the wrong. The real kicker was that I also recall the youth worrying about his driving record, as it was the 2nd or 3rd accident he had been in the past few months.
We need to step up what it takes to get all bad drivers off the road including today's youth. It would be great if we could have radar on every street 24/7, cars that automatically slowed down or some other ridiculous manner of stopping those who are incapable of handling a motorized vehicle. The fact is those “racers” need to be held accountable for their actions and punishment needs to be severe because this kind of behaviour does not appear to be diminishing despite all the tragedies on BC roadways in the past couple of years.
Sincerely,
M.G
