Re: 'Messy way' around parking

The Aug. 25 article, “'Messy way' around parking”, on Castanet, needs clarifying.

The developer at 1145 Pacific Avenue and 599 Clement Avenue committed to provide four car share vehicles in exchange for a parking reduction on each of their apartment building projects in accordance with an incentive within the City of Kelowna’s Zoning Bylaw.

Modo, being the community’s car share provider, attempted to facilitate the requirement; however, they were unable to come to terms with a formal agreement. To resolve the outstanding reduction of parking as the buildings are nearing completion, the developer applied to rezone the properties to the City’s long-term rental sub-zone in order to take advantage of the associated parking reductions for rental projects. The proposal also included the provision of one car share for each property in agreement with Modo.  City Council considered this request at a regular meeting on Tuesday September 15, 2020 and approved the rezoning requests which resolved the issue.

The City of Kelowna values the partnership and contributions of Modo and wishes the car share program great success as it continues to grow within our community.

Terry Barton, City of Kelowna
