I will not be openly welcoming Albertans or other out of province visitors for any non essential travel during the pandemic.
I don't in any way condone vandalism or violence towards visitors from other provinces and Mr.Callaghan is right that kindness is the only option. At this time, there should only be limited essential travel between all provinces in order to keep the curve flattened. It was only this past Canada day that we had an outbreak in downtown Kelowna attributed to visitors from the Lower Mainland and Alberta.
This works both ways, and there should also be no non-essential travel to Alberta or other provinces from BC. There are many great places in each province to visit that don't require inter provincial travel. I see many red and white license plates at my neighbors winery in East Kelowna and yet very little physical distancing or masks in an environment where your inhibitions are easily lowered.
While it is true that Alberta is doing more testing than BC and they have some good testing numbers the only real numbers that matter are deaths per population. Any other numbers just blur the reality that you can easily have some serious health problems or die from this virus. Alberta has 15% less of a population then B.C. and yet they have consistently had more deaths than B.C. since the beginning of the pandemic. As someone over 50 who has a lowered immune system this is the only stat I need.
