Make winter tires the law

I'm a strong advocate for the right tires at the right time. I routinely lobby the government and our MLA for making having them the law during winter conditions.

That 'accident' in Summerland where the person was killed – were they running winter tires?

Having winter tires is the single greatest thing anyone can do to make their vehicle safe on the roads.

To make an argument that someone can safely get around in winter conditions with summer tires or 'all seasons' or that you have AWD or 4WD only comes from a place of stupidity or non-experience.

I've made the drive over mountain passes in more than a few snowstorms. Each time when I'm slowly navigating around vehicles that are down and out, I take notice of whether or not they're running winter tires. With very few exceptions, they're not.

I don't deserve to pay into an insurance plan that pays out to people who make bad decisions. Yes, winter tires are an expense... but so is being in an accident and getting hurt or killed.

People complain about laws, and a lot of people would get angry if there was one requiring winter tires in the Okanagan. I deserve to know that the person driving across the yellow line from my wife and kids has winter tires on.

This danger is compounded by Kelowna's decision not to apply the right amount of aggregate to slippery surfaces. The roads were needlessly atrocious.
