Many thoughts on the fiver

I propose that a firefighter be depicted on the new $5 bill.

It has been reported that 1 in 3 firefighters is diagnosed with cancer, yet there has never been a shortage of heroic men and women stepping up.

Yes, there are individuals like Terry Fox who are definitely worthy, and his legacy is very well known, but instead of focusing on one individual, it would be more appropriate to recognize the thousands of firefighters and their families.

Fire/Rescue Lt. Rt. Bradley Ford Smith, Anglemont

Terry Fox is my choice. Terry broke my heart when he was unable to complete his marathon run coast to coast to raise money for cancer research. To see him cry when he was forced to stop for health reasons... Terry wasn’t crying for himself, he was crying because he wasn’t able to finish his goal. Terry was a strong, courageous young man and is an obvious choice

Five Canadian Hockey Legends: Gordie Howe, Wayne Gretzky, Bobby Hull, Ken Dryden, and Rocket Richard.

Robert Morrell

Definitely Terry Fox! Amazing and strong young man. What a lovely way to honour him.

Melanie Faulkenham

Definitly would like to see Terry Fox. Although Terry has been on a Canadian coin already, I believe he should be nominated for the new face on the $5 bill.

Judy Davenport

I would like see Terry Fox or Don Cherry on the $5 bill.

While all the choices are very worthy options, I believe the decision-makers should run a lottery open to anybody. Let's get five faces of average folks on the fiver and better represent the people who fund this nation's wealth by generating the value those bills represent. And it wouldn't hurt to remind politicians and government contract managers that every time they spend one of these, some average joe/joanna worked darn hard to earn it.

Something that represents Canada – the Real Canada. How about a Canadian moose or maybe a Canada goose, grizzly or even a “bonafide" First Nation person? They were here before we were.

Joe Hipfner

Leave the $5bill alone! Trudeau and his merry band of progressive socialists are hell bent on eradicating our proud history. Enough already.

Scott Jaffray

I believe the new face for the five should be Neal Peart.

Nico Lerr

The father of our medicare system – T.C. Douglas.

I think that putting someone new on our currency is great. But, I think we’re changing the wrong bill. We should change the Queen on the $20.

Laurier is Canadian, the Queen isn’t. The Queen also monopolizes all the coins! Get her off the $20, and let’s have an all-Canadian team on our paper currency.

If we’re going to change Laurier on the $5 bill, then let’s change all the bills and have Canadian wildlife on them. It would be colourful and non-offensive.
