Letters

The real point of the matter

I have been reading the letters about Don Cherry, and while I always wear a poppy and go to a service, I do it because I thank my lucky stars that I had people like that defending my right to freedom, speech and expression.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, no matter how much I agree or disagree.

But, I would like to point out there are some people who are preaching wearing a poppy to respect the people who died for our freedoms, yet in the same letter, saying if you don't wear a poppy, go back to your own country!

To me, that sounds exactly opposite of defending people's freedoms of speech and expression.

When I read people saying that, one of the things I think of is "bigot."

Do you really believe in freedom of speech and expression, or is it only available to those who wear a poppy?

There are so many reasons why people don't get a poppy.

The outrage over Cherry losing his job, when he should have retired 10 years ago, is amazing, considering people are homeless, many people don't have family doctors, some don't make enough money to afford to buy a home.

I think our fallen soldiers would have found those issues, along with the freedoms they fought for, were the ideals they put their lives on the line for.
