We had several great recovery homes, centres, and detox units throughout B.C. at one time.
They promoted the only way to recovery was through total abstinence, and gave people the tools to use in that process. Politicians chose to make their own rules about recovery and shut down all the centres, opening only for-profit recovery places that tell people that they can control their use.
Well that is total B.S. Abstinence is the only answer, and 12-step programs work.
What is needed are good recovery houses (where a person can live up to a year), detoxes so people can actually get off drugs. The, and only then, should they be allowed into a housing situation that is affordable for them.
Another politician took all rent/lease controls off the table and lowered the funds given out for housing through welfare, kicking hundreds of people onto the street.
What motivation do people have to get clean and sober if someone just gives them a house to live in where they don't have to do anything except their drugs and/or alcohol?
