What do I get for airport fee?

I hate to complain, but here we are being told that the airport improvement fee at Kelowna Airport is going up by a staggering 60%.

I travel through the airport every month, and ever since WestJet and Air Canada started using the Q400 planes, I get to walk to and from them outside – yay.

So, the AIF doesn't do a darn thing for us travellers who are forced to fly this way.

In all the years that I have travelled through our airport, I have not seen much improvement to services, as I still see long lineups in the summer months, waiting to go through the detection units. Most of the other things that have changed at the airport are what I call cosmetic, and surely don't demand so many millions, as stated, to have things working there.

The arrival area has stayed the same for years.

Last year, the city raised the parking fees as well, to a level that is ridiculously high. That cancelled out me using the parking lot there, as it is far cheaper to just take a cab now.

What do those inflated rates do for the airport parking lot? There has been nothing to improve it since the rate hike.

How come Edmonton, and other airports, can have park and fly areas at only $6 a day?

So, I ask, how is it in this day and age of fiscal restraint, that the airport, or city, get away with such a hike, when so many of us could use our hard-earned money for much more important things than making our airport "pretty" for the tourists.

I am totally fine with how our airport looks now, aside from the walking outside most of the time to my "cheaper to operate" plane.
