It was quite the sight: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Green Party Leader Elizabeth May, and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh – political rivals in the upcoming federal election – all marching together in the Vancouver Pride Parade on Aug 4.
Notably absent was Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer, though he claims to support the LGBTQ community.
In fact, Scheer has never taken part in a pride parade anywhere in Canada. And a spokesperson said that he won't be joining any in the foreseeable future.
In 2005, Scheer spoke out against same-sex marriage. Recently, reporters asked Scheer time and again whether his personal position is different today. His answers were deliberately obfuscatory.
Scheer refuses to say loudly and clearly that now he is personally in favour of same-sex marriage. Yet he claims to support the LGBTQ community.
You have to walk the walk, or it's all just talk.
