What Is Wrong With Laws?

D.F. must live in my area, if not in my building, and I applaud her letter. I hope Werner Schmidt can help us, for one of the units in my building is a well known 'crack house' and I don't understand why the RCMP aren't able to shut it down. What is wrong with our laws that criminal activity can move in and those of us who just recently paid our city taxes, have no right or ability to demand it move out?

How long before the residents of Kelowna realize they are facing a problem that's growing worse by the day? How long before the parents of Kelowna realize they've been dropping their children off in front of a crack house?

In the past weeks, on our property, I have seen discarded needles, two men plugging one of these needles into their arms, countless blank eyed young teens with BMX bikes, backpacks and hoodies, fights, as well as mounds of proof that our grounds are being used as a bathroom. I have seen a young woman stagger through our carport, hunting knife in one hand, compact mirror in the other - and full grown men crawling on the ground around our vehicles searching out cigarette butts. How can it be that after 10 years of loving my home I wake up to discover I live in what is now a bad part of town and there's really not all that much I can do about it?

This picture is a parkette located at Pandosy and Boyce Crescent, this all too familiar scenario. The worn area in the foreground of this picture is the path to the crack house.
