Anybody listening?

Re: Mayor Basran’s statement that fear is not warranted.

There is some truth to this, as being a young man who knows how to maintain a safe distance from unsavoury characters, I do not fear for my personal safety.  I know the areas not to walk and could handle myself if needed.

What I do fear for is my personal property. I now keep my bicycle in my living room as my neighbours’ young kid’s bike was stolen from their balcony. The lock couldn’t be cut, so they broke the balcony railing it was locked to.

Never before had I thought about a home security system and cameras. Now, it’s getting installed next week.

So, there are different types of fear. My property that I worked for being stolen and destroyed.

If (more likely when) I become a victim, I’ll have crystal clear image of the crime – for which there will likely be no punishment.

Our city, and community is in a sad sad state of affairs, and no one seems to be listening.
