Lost home and belongings

I'm a person who picked the wrong roommate.

On Feb. 14, the RCMP surrounded my apartment on Bernard Avenue. I fortunately was not there at the time however, my partner was.

The police were looking for my roommate, known to me as JD.

Well, they already had him in custody, as they arrested him while he was leaving the building. However, they proceeded to smash through a glass door to the building even though the maintenance man was standing there with keys to open it so they wouldn't do damage.

They only yelled and swore at him to get out of the way and proceeded to destroy the back door to gain entry to the building. From there, they smashed through the unit door, which was unlocked at the time and then threw in a concussion bomb, which did extreme damage to the door, its frame, the walls and carpet in the area.

The police physically took down my partner, who was home asleep not having a clue what was going on, causing a bleeding head and black eye. He spent 12 hours in city cells that day.

Since the incident, we have been thrown out of our home, which was completely destroyed my the police conducting their search.

When we received a call two days later saying the police were finished in our unit, we returned to find no front door on our apartment. What was left of value was gone, including two large TVs, a Mac home computer, two laptops, over 300 DVDs, my jewelry box, sports card collection, a drone I bought my partner for Christmas, and more.

We couldn't continue to live there with no door, and the owners no longer wanted to have us as tenants. So they took it upon themselves to pack up what was left of our belongings and throw it in the dumpster.

We lost our home, all our belongings, my $600 damage deposit, plus am being sued for the damages the police caused.

Why should I be the one responsible? Are the police not supposed to serve and protect?
