Veterans lied to again

I am a supporter of retired major MP Steve Fuhr.

Much has been accomplished by the Liberals, and for that they will receive many unfavourable comments from non-supporters. This is usual.

But, the prime minister campaigned on restoring the lifelong disability pension for veterans, which was done away by the Liberals in years gone by.

We veterans believed Mr. Trudeau  was going to bring back the lifelong disability pension to what it was prior to the New Veterans Charter, which all parties agreed to.

The meaning of lifelong to us is the disability pension would be given to veterans for as long as they live, and then the spouse would receive about half that when the veteran passed.

The new "lifelong" is not what it used to be. An award for a disability may range from a $15,000 buyout, and the veteran has options as to how they may receive this pension. What disturbed a lot of veterans is how can anyone decide how long a person is going to live, so government may accrue the amount for the life of the veteran.

Beats the hell out of me. And, when the veteran passes, the spouse now receives nothing.

Take a 40-year-old veteran receiving a lifelong pension who lives until 80. Under the pre charter plan, they would receive about $1 million. That's a lot more than $15,000.

Government is not telling the truth about their new idea of lifelong pension.
