I read the other day about a resident on Talbot Road in Oyama complaining about the condition of the road. I have to agree – it has been a mess for a very long time.
There are many roads in Lake Country that are also a mess. To name a few: Williams Road, Shanks Road, Beaver Lake Road, Seaton Road, Glenmore Road, OK Centre Road West, and on and on.
All these roads make us look like we are living in a Third World country. I should also mention the Beaver Lake Road-Glenmore Road intersection, which nobody seems to be concerned about.
I find it appalling the district is spending $3 million to upgrade Pelmewash Parkway along with a walking and biking trail – $1,250,000 is taxpayers money and $1,750,000 in grant money.
One would think the other roads in Lake Country would take priority.
When we were having the referendum on buying the CN rail corridor, Mayor Baker and council were going around telling us they could afford to buy the rail corridor as well as fix up the roads in Lake Country. Since then, they have imposed a $125 road tax on us, and are using this money on the Pelmewash Parkway upgrade.
Now we will be spending a total of almost $7 million for both, while side roads continue to be in disrepair.
It is time for the taxpayers of Lake Country to speak up and let council know we are not going to stand for this. We can do this by electing a whole new council in October.
