Politics isn't about fairness

This will probably get lost on most people, but I have had enough of the misdirection that people are doing with the voting referendum. Here are a few points to consider:

  • Yes, most seats are elected with less than 50 per cent of the popular vote, but then most ridings have more than two candidates, so unless only two candidates are voted for and everyone else gets zero votes, of course a candidate will get less than half the votes and be the winning candidate.
  • Research proportional governments, every one of them costs more to operate, take longer to make a decision, elections cost more and these are the most inefficient forms of government.
  • It is ironic that we are using a first past the post system to decide if we want to use a first past the post election system.
  • Life is all about winning and losing, even though the peewee hockey team doesn’t keep official scores, at the end of the game, the players know who got the most goals. Elections should be about winning and losing, not about being fair – that is a socialist attitude.
  • The decision to have a different electoral system will be decided by the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island, any of the ridings north of Hope will have the most minimal amount of influence in this decision, but send in your vote anyway.
