America was great

My father served in the Canadian Navy from 1939-45.

He returned to Winnipeg carrying the burden of post-traumatic stress.

He told me he was unable to function and moved from job to job under constant depression.

In the early 1950s, when I was a small boy, our family moved to Santa Monica, Calif. My father was able to get work immediately and was treated with the same respect as veterans from the U.S. We prospered.

We stayed in California for six years and two in Bellingham.

My father told me that our time in America most likely saved his life.

We returned to Winnipeg in 1960. He came back a completely different man and gave all credit to the people he worked with, worked for, and neighbours for his recovery.  America was Great.

If my Dad were still alive, he would be heartbroken to see what is happening now. People unhappy, sad, no longer proud, humiliated.

Today, a new administration led by Donald Trump on the promise of "Make America Great Again."

A billionaire president that is hated by most countries in the world, fires anybody who disagrees with him, and runs the country via Twitter. Hopefully, one of his tweets will finally lead to impeachment, and let America start to heal, and become again what it once was.
