Mr. Mayor, there is no simple solution to the City Park and downtown area – because you are the problem.
You continue to add beds for the homeless to the downtown area. There is no enforcement of the people using the shelter area for the sale of drugs and ongoing prostitution of young people.
The direction you have taken puts the power with this dangerous group of people. You have made it a grey area for the RCMP to do the job they are supposed to do.
These issues have all been witnessed by me and my family over the years. Nothing has changed – the problems are escalating, the confrontations are escalating.
We need changes downtown, and the enforcement needs to start now.
For the long term, move the Gospel Mission and all the beds you have created for the homeless out of the downtown area. I don't understand why the drug users should inhabit the prime areas of our city.
Maybe then I will consider bringing the grandkids downtown again.
