Three lanes exiting and two lanes entering Kelowna.
Result: unaffordable delays by all segments of our community, costing hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Potential solution: we have a third lane entering Kelowna that is devoted to pedestrians, cyclists and bridge maintenance vehicles. This lane is wide enough to be converted to a third lane.
Build a cantilever structure attached to the south side of the bridge to accommodate pedestrian/cyclist traffic.
Expensive yes, but cheaper than any other alternative I have heard mentioned.
This solution would at least temporarily delay the twinning of the bridge until the powers that be in Victoria approve a much-needed bypass plan for the city.
