A gift, or sock it to 'em?

Re: “Taxpayers get a break,” reported by Wayne Moore on April 29.

The news report appears to portray that Kelowna city council has given Kelowna property owners a great gift.

However a property owner with even a little intelligence, and that is everyone, knows very well that 2.99 per cent is greater than 2.6 per cent, B.C.'s all-item inflation rate (March 2017 to March 2018).

The national inflation rate for the same period was 2.3 per cent.

You should research how the tax rate increase compares to wages and pension increases, excluding minimum wage.

Castanet should be fair and not report it as a “gift,” when in fact it is more like “sock it to them.”

Also, if you check the annual history, you may find it is the same story every year – council is the so-called hero.
