Living Positive Community

I understand this establishment is undergoing an expansion and moving their Rutland location right next door to Rutland Centennial Park. I’m just wondering what the plan is for ensuring the safety of children in the neighborhood and at the park with regards to needles and vagrants.

Rutland is bad enough and getting worse, these people have absolutely no qualms about drinking and doing drugs in public.

I have previously requested that the RCMP get out of their cars and walk the beat as it were. The response to me at the time was that they are not responsible for monitoring private property. I was not talking about private property exclusively, I’m talking about these people doing whatever they want with no regard for public decency on the sidewalks, in Roxby park and the parking lot behind, in the alleys and yes on private property too.

If the RCMP won’t do it, I ask, what do we pay them for, and who are they beholden to? Why can’t Bylaw do what RCMP won’t do?

My children walk to school in this neighborhood and they ride their bikes to Centennial Park on their own. There are 6 elementary schools, 1 high school, 1 middle school and a ton of families all within 2 km of this site, not to mention the City park right next door.

When will someone stand up for the safety of our children?

Jeff Frank
