Cheap Gas Not Worth The Trip

It was an interesting story about cheap gas in Summerland, and it's true, as I was there last week (filled up my crewcab full size truck too!). However your suggestion that people drive 35 min to fill up is misplaced. I commuted the last 2 years daily from Summerland to Kelowna then moved here. With bridge traffic and the highway construction south of Peachland you can have 15 minute to one hour delays. That's about a 60-75 minute trip now.

The gas is 12 cents/L cheaper in Summerland. However its a 100 km round trip and most cars burn 10 liters/100 km. Thats $9.65 in gas at 96.5 and $8.45 at Summerland prices for your trip to Summerland to get the cheap gas.

If your car holds 50 liters you would save $6.00 over a fill up in Kelowna. So it is a losing proposition.

Moreover, its a waste of 2 hours of your day, and its really hard on the environment. I am amused at how we all search for cheap gas (myself included), save a couple bucks then think nothing of having a couple $4 beers after work. Lets put gas cost in perspective with our other favourite costs.

Please post this for other drivers to avoid going out of town. The 4 laning construction at OK Lake Park is a major snarl and is in full swing with giant off road gravel trucks dominating the landscape combined with RV's. It's not an easy drive.
