Same regulations as taxis

I rarely use taxis, maybe twice a year and it is unlikely I would use a ride hailing service.

If I were to use one of these services, I would want to know that there were regulations mandating safety inspections for vehicles, background checks, appropriate licences and insurance for drivers just as in the taxi industry. I wouldn’t want a low cost airline to be operating without the same rules as regular airlines so why would this be any different. Regardless of the argument that they are only an app, the reality is that the drivers are in the business of providing transportation and should be paying all applicable fees for being in business.

If the government is going to change the rules to allow Uber and others to operate then they need to compensated taxi operators for the thousands they have paid for licences to operate.
