Was reading on Castanet that the head of the United Way resigned.
Third time in four years it says. I wonder why?
Did she receive a severance package? I sure hope not, us peons aren't entitled.
The article goes on to say that they only raised $1.25 million of a goal of $1.5 million. In the Daily Courier, it showed "fundraising expenses" of $404,000 and "program expenses" of $195,000 leaving $785,000 for allocation to member agencies (charities?). That's a touch over 46% going to "administration".
My feeling is that somebody up top is pulling down a pretty good wage. That's the reason I would not donate to the United Way. Shriner's give 100% to charities and Salvation Army are not far behind.
Would the Castanet News be willing to approach the United Way and get a breakdown of where this money actually goes and how much the management gets paid? I seem to remember seeing these figures years ago and I was really astounded by what the Executive gets paid.
