I agree with you about the drivers in this town. One of my pet peeves is coming down 'bridge hill' when there is only one lane crossing the bridge. Utilize BOTH lanes until you come to the bottom, and then merge, alternately. This would keep traffic flowing smoothly, and avoid accidents and traffic back-up.
But no, everyone seemed to think that as soon as they see that there is only one lane, they have to get over. Keep going!!! And then you get the ones who refuse to let people merge and alternate at the bottom, as if you are the one doing something wrong. That is how it is done people. Use both lanes, then merge alternately at the bottom. Get educated on the rules and procedures or stay off the roads!
I have also seen the chaos of a power outage where nobody seems to know what to do. An intersection with no lights operating then becomes a 4-way stop. And for those of you who don't know how that works (I've seen a lot of idiots at the 4-way on Burtch and Sutherland) whoever gets to their stop sign first, goes first. If you approach at the same time then the person to your right goes.
They have 'tightened' the rules for getting your license over the past few years, but why haven't they made a law that you need to re-do your drivers exam and road test say every 5 years? Maybe then the roads would be a safer place to be.
