Re: Sleepless in Oyama

I can appreciate that living in an agricultural community where there are agricultural sounds can be quite bothersome.

However, there are some logical reasons why farmers start so early.and work so late.  A very simple reason is, too much work and not enough hours in the day to complete it all. But more importantly, there are certain sprays, as an example, that cannot be applied once the air reaches a certain temperature. hence starting early before it gets too warm. Wind is another factor. Even a slight breeze can affect the spray distribution. This can dictate when spraying is done. Same goes for the rain.

Cherries have to be blown off before the sun comes out because that is when they will crack hence it is often done in the evening - after the rain has stopped. I am sure the farmers would rather not spend the money to blow off their cherries.  Corn is best picked when it is cool outside so is often picked very early in the morning or more often in the evening so it can be arrive at market fresh for the consumer.  The list goes on.

Yes, I understand the noise can be bothersome. But I for one am thankful for the noise because it means I live in an area that can sustain an agricultural industry. Perhaps a bit of research on the agricultural industry in the area would have been a good idea.  I know that if I was planning to move near an airport, I would want to know when to expect planes flying over head.
