Attacks on billboard

Open Letter to Mayor Colin Basran:

I have been a resident of Kelowna for over 40 years. I love this city. I feel privileged and blessed to have had the opportunity to go to school, live, and work here all these years.  I am also the Executive Director of the Kelowna Right to Life Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public on the intrinsic value and worth of each human being from the moment of conception to the moment of natural death.

We have over 500 individual, corporate, and family members, and boast nearly 900 followers on our Facebook page. Pro-life people make up a sizeable segment of Kelowna’s population, and I speak for all of us when I say we are dismayed, and feel threatened, by the recent attacks on our billboard along Highway 97 in West Kelowna.

We recognize that people have diverse opinions and beliefs, and we strongly condemn any acts of hatred against those with different beliefs, or their property. Such acts of hatred have no place in our community.

Whereas the mayors’ office has influence in setting a tone of tolerance in our community, and is willing to take extraordinary and unorthodox actions to do so on behalf of the homosexual community, I hereby request that you release a public statement condemning any and all acts of hatred, specifically against the pro-life and Christian communities here in our beautiful city.

Marlon Bartram
