Census is important for all

Further to the article ‘Many refuse census’ on your website, Statistics Canada would like to stress that it’s vital that all households take part.

Over 11 million households have participated in the census so far. It is important that all households take part, as the information collected is used for decision-making at the community level across the country.

Census data are used by a range of data users, such as governments, businesses, teachers, students, researchers, associations and institutions, at the national, provincial, territorial, regional and municipal levels.

Census information is important for all communities and is vital for planning services such as child care, schooling, family services, housing, and skills training for employment.

Statistics Canada gives households every opportunity to complete the Census. The website at www.Census.gc.ca remains open until high response is secured in every community. The Census Help Line 1-855-700-2016 also remains in operation. Individuals can ask for assistance to complete the Census or request a paper form.

Laying charges for failure to complete a Census of Population questionnaire is the last step in a lengthy process. It is a process that ensures that a person has been given every opportunity to participate in the census.
