Re: Deterioration of services

I appreciate the concerns expressed by the writer of the May 2 letter published under the headline “Deterioration of services,” however there is one point I would like to clarify for your readers, and our patients.

While it’s been suggested patients requiring services of an endocrinologist will have to go outside Interior Health for this service, that’s not the case. We anticipate patients requiring this service will be looked after by our team of internal medicine specialists at KGH, and other hospitals, as we recruit for a replacement.

It is unfortunate that the specialist referred to in the letter has chosen to leave the country, and we appreciate the care he has provided for the patients in this region. We want to thank him and wish him well in his future endeavours.

We have some of the best physicians, nurses, and support staff in BC at Kelowna General Hospital, and we are confident they will continue to offer patients excellent care as we work to replace the departing physician.

Andrew Hughes
Health Services Administrator
