Dump truck bullies

We all deal with dump trucks on our roads, the lack of courtesy, lack of safety the lack of common sense and disregard to our laws. We see them weaving in and out of traffic, going way over the speed limit.  Going through red lights because they are going to fast to stop and tail gating. Drivers in front of them can never go fast enough the speed limit means nothing to them.

I won’t even mention the flying debris that comes from their undercarriage and tires. That’s another issue.

I have witnessed all of above on Gordon, Chute Lake Rd, but I live on Lakeshore Rd in a 50 km/h zone.  As you go south on Lakeshore the zone goes to 40 km/h.  Construction is in full swing. Dump truck drivers go through our community at speeds in excess of 80 km/h.

The RCMP set up radar traps and within minutes the bullies driving these dump truck have got on their 2 way radios and alerted all other dump truck drivers of impeding radar.  Within minutes they are doing the speed limit at least until the under staffed police have moved to another location to deal with the same problem. This game the dump truck drivers are playing is incredibly dangerous and so disrespectful to all of us that commute on our road system. These  dump truck drivers are dangerous, this is not a game. What does it say about these dump truck drivers. To me it says they are dangerous and deadly.

The issue has escalated this week, as a home builder has the trades parking on the bike lanes on both sides of the road. This has not slowed down the dump truck drivers. In fact they hog the centre lane, and in fact drive on the wrong side of the road and honk at oncoming traffic, which for safety reasons, stop allowing the trucks to ram through.

These truck drivers need to respect communities they drive through.

They need to respect the police and respect other drivers on the road. They all need to be charged enough times to get them off the road. These are not professionals, they are bullies.

It’s time for the average driver to start complaining and reporting what they see. These drivers deserve no respect, there is no justification for their actions.  It’s time for the City and those that hire these drivers to take responsibility for the actions of these drivers.  Everyone that hires these drivers also has a responsibility to insure all construction vehicles are driven according to the laws we drive by.

No more games.

Gord Nyki
