The Conservative legacy

With the Federal Election only days away, we need to take a look back at how Canada has faired under Mr. Harper’s leadership since 2006, despite the Global Recession in 2008, and the current oil crisis.  This is the Conservative legacy:

1. Lowered taxes for business and individuals, as well as a GST cut from 7 to 5%

2. Tax free savings account, then doubled it to $10,000

3. Income splitting for seniors and others

4. Children’s Art and Sports tax credit

5. Universal Child Benefit Program

6. Increased Defense spending

7. Increased Transfer Payments to provinces for Health and Education

8. Largest investment in Infrastructure in Canadian history, without raising taxes or borrowing a penny

9. One million more Canadians exempt from income tax

10. Family of 4 saving $6500 in Federal Tax each year

11. Lowest Federal Income Tax in 50 years

12. Economic growth for 7 straight years, with surplus in the budget of almost 2 billion last year, and this year’s forecast even better

No other country in the G7 can boast these results.

We need to be aware of where we could be now, or in the very near future, if our country takes a wrong turn.  Here are 2 examples:

1. Ontario is being referred to as “Canada’s Greece” under the policies of their Liberal ‘spend and tax’ Premier, Kathleen Wynne.

2. Albertans, after only a few months, are regretting the election of the N.D.P., given job losses and business closures due to tax hikes.

Let’s keep Canada financially strong, stable and safe.

Gertrude Sawatzky
