Disaster at home in Canada

You know, when there is a disaster anywhere in the world, the Canadian Government, Federal and Provincial, really go out to assist them and to help them with food, money ,medical supplies, tents and whatever else is needed. Why does that not happen in our own country? Here in Canada we are in a disaster zone, our school system failing, our health system failing, massive unemployment, increasing amount of families on welfare who cannot pay for food or medicine, homeless at an all time high and the worst child poverty in the Western world and yet we keep getting told by our elected officials that there is no money available to help us. Yet the Government can find millions and millions of dollars to help people in other countries (some countries that do not even like us). My mother when I was a kid always told me, that you help your own first, then help others not the other way round. I know that I am just blowing in the wind because nothing will be told.
