The official Community Plan seems to be on a collision course with Traffic requirements. We as a community have just spent much time & money in developing & promoting the Water street corridor as a pedestrian friendly "cultural district".
As anyone who has taken a summer evening drive or stroll down Water Street from Bernard Ave., north to-wards Knox Mtn. can attest, this area is indeed vibrant, and in fact traffic usually slows responsibly to 30 km/hr thru this area because of the high volume of pedestrians.
Why on earth would we now plan to make this street into a one way traffic corridor? The one-way flow may make it easier for pedestrians to watch out for traffic, but trying to ease traffic congestion on a daily basis thru this same corridor makes no sense at all!
I am not opposed to Water Street becoming a one way street, but to promote it as a solution to traffic congestion I think would be counter productive to the gains this area has made in providing residents and visitors alike with a friendly, pedestrian active vibrant cultural district.
