United by ribs

It’s been a great week with all the kids going back to school.

I never did see the Staples commercial that shows parents riding the shopping carts down the store aisles while It’s the most wonderful time of the year plays in the background.

Unite Launch Party is happening tonight at Doc Willoughby’s.

Jason Bell and Jesse Brown have developed an app that brings people together through activities and events or, like they say, Gettin' People Out Doin’ Stuff.

If you feel like going for a hike, then you can search who else wants to go for a hike right now or maybe you just finished work and you want to have a beer.

Well, you can see which friend or potential new friend wants to have a beer with you that is in the same area too.

Reach out to Jason or Jesse if you are looking for advertisement information or just download the app Unite on the app store.

If your missing something in yourself or your looking to give back to the community, join the new Volunteer Club that Michael Lavigne has put together.

The next event is helping the Kelowna Food Bank get ready for its Thanksgiving Food Drive.

Michael is definitely the guy that gives our last name a great reputation.

He is involved with all sorts of giving-back projects so follow him to see what’s next.

In his day job, he is the CEO and founder of Time Brokers. Maybe with the money he can save you on your cable, Internet and phones services is the money, you can give back to his community projects.  www.timebrokers.ca.

CrimeStoppers Golf Tournament happened today at the Harvest.

The sun is shining, so I am sure the crime rate will be a little bit lower today so law enforcement relax and enjoy yourself a little bit more on the course.

The money raised goes to support their Mug$hots, Missing Persons, Unsolved Crimes, Hot Recs programs.

Tim Lynch promises great prizes and lots of fun.

Kevin Johnson of Bear Land Development Services and the president of Urban Development Institute Under 40 has organized Our Future City conference, which is happening at the Rotary Center for the Arts today.

This half-day real estate development event is bringing together people of all ages and industries to look into the future growth and direction of Kelowna and the Okanagan.

Some of the topics will include an architecture debate, the future development of technology, healthy cities and the density debate (what, where and why?).

You will need to do some pretty good sweet talking at the door if you want to attend this one now.

RibFest is happening next weekend in City Park. Sunrise Rotary will be taking over City Park with three days of ribs.

Four of the most awarded ribbers from across Canada will be doing their thing while you watch some live music, visit vendors or wear you kids out in the kids zone.

I will be partaking in the festivities, but I was a barbecue competition judge almost six years ago and I still don’t eat smoked meats any more.

That was both one of the best things I have ever done and also the worst. Thanks, Alex Miller.

Make it a great week!
