A man of influence

Congratulations to Matt Gomez of Soilmate for making the list of top 53 most influential people in the Canadian food industry.

Soilmate is a local tech start up and its message is simple: know your farmer, know your food.

Its goal is to allow communities easy access to know what their local farmers grow, how they grow it, and when we can get it.

Matt gave local Gormand Award winning cook book author Jennifer Schell a great compliment by saying her cookbook is all he needs.

Check out Soilmate and Jennifer’s cookbook.

The Kelowna Jaycees have been invited to participate with the Okanagan Historical Society to host an Old Fashioned Family Social from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 27 at the Father Pandosy Mission.

This is a time where both locals and new locals will be able to learn the history of Kelowna while having fun at the same time.

There will be demonstrations and activities including old fashioned clothes washing, spinning and weaving, museum displays, face painting and antique fire trucks and tractors.

Mark Amareeli, who has organized a barbecue, got his hands on a cotton-candy machine, which will help make the kid’s zone a little more energetic.

Best of luck to Jason Ranchoux and Amy Lavigne who are in charge of those kids activities. LOL.

Please come out and support all the organizations.

More great tech news for Kelowna. This week Provision Data Systems Inc acquired 4,500 square feet of space in Landmark buildings. Provision Data is a locally owned and managed tech service provider with facilities in the Landmark Technology Campus.

It provides collocation and hosting services all over the world as well as local IT services too. Read Accelerate Okanagan’s entire story here.

If you like what you’re seeing and hearing about tech in our community or you want to know more about it come out to Accelerate Okanagan’s Block Party on Aug. 26 from 4-9 p.m.

This party will be bringing together technology enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, and supporters of the Okanagan tech community.  For more information or to purchase your tickets, click here.

Bouchons is one of the best and our favourite restaurants in Kelowna. The French bistro offers French regional comfort food in a European ambiance.

I have never seen it or used it, but I am told the ladies washroom is a must for the full experience.

We are so happy to know that the new owners Stefan and Beatrice are going to continue that same experience that Richard and Martine created and maintained since 2004.  We wish all four of you good luck on your new ventures. Book your reservations.

Congratulations to Warren Saari, who has just been named president of Omega Communications Ltd.  I am sure your young professional training got you into the position you are in now. LOL.

Omega has been providing commercial wireless solutions since 1976. For a list of all their services take a look at their website.

Make it a great week!
