Driving change for local YMCA

Kelowna Kia is joining others around the country in raising funds for the annual YMCA Strong Kids campaign.

As part of Kia Canada's encouragement to dealers to get involved with their communities through the Drive Change program, Kelowna's local dealership decided to go the extra mile and raise as much as they could for the local YMCA.

Several days ago Kelowna Kia held a car wash and BBQ by donation, where 12 youngsters from the YMCA helped to shine up the vehicles.

Makal Mann, of Kelowna Kia, says just over $570 was raised during the event with the dealership adding $350 to the campaign.

"We did it last year as well but we made it a bigger deal this year and tried to raise a little bit more. I think we probably washed around 35 to 40 cars it was kind of neat, friends were sending staff members to come down and get their cars washed,I think everyone had a lot of fun."

The YMCA Strong Kids Campaign supports children, teens and young adults in the local community and focuses on raising funds for much needed resources for YMCA programs. These programs include helping a child learn to swim, participating in a recreational or physical activity, helping a teen learn to lead and enabling a family to use trusted child care.
