Arrest In 1979 Penticton Murder

RCMP have made an arrest in connection with an Okanagan murder that dates back to 1979.

Susan Duff, 12, of Penticton disappeared 26 years ago while riding her bike. She was last seen in the area of Skaha Lake Road.

Her remains were found in the area of Carmi Rd. weeks after she vanished. The cause of death was listed as asphyxiation.

Last week, RCMP charged Ernest John Gardiner, 68, of Penticton with Duff's murder. He is the girl's uncle. Gardiner is also facing half-a-dozen counts of sexual assault. Gardiner is alleged to have committed the attacks at around the same time Duff disappeared.

Police are looking for more information from the public regarding the sexual assaults.

Gardiner remains in custody.
